Deviled Eggs with Hummus: The Secret Ingredient You Need to Try

Looking for a new spin on a classic appetizer? Creamier, tastier deviled eggs are just one ingredient away. Hummus adds the perfect twist to this crowd favorite.
There’s something timeless, and a bit church basement potlucky, about that whipped, tangy filling nestled into a perfectly boiled egg white. But there’s one simple ingredient that will elevate your deviled eggs a notch higher than your snooty cousin at the next family reunion.

Enter hummus. By adding a few spoonfuls of the Mediterranean staple, your deviled eggs get a richer flavor boost that blends deliciously with the classic mustard, mayo and egg yolk combo.
Make Hummus Deviled Eggs
It’s simple. Hummus + traditional deviled egg filling = your new favorite appetizer.
Make hummus at home using your tried and true recipe, or give my Smooth, Not Gritty, Smoky Garlic Hummus recipe a try. Otherwise, make it real simple and add your favorite store-bought hummus. My favorite is Kowalski’s Roasted Garlic.

All you need to do is stir in the hummus (about one-fourth of the amount of your prepared deviled egg yolk filling with mayonnaise, mustard, etc.) to the yolk filling before you fill the egg whites.
For example, if you have one cup of the yolk-mayo-mustard filling, stir in about 1/4 cup of hummus into the yolk filling.
Or…just add a little dollop of hummus to the egg white first and then top it with your yolk mixture.

Smoky Deviled Eggs
Start with my recipe for smoky deviled eggs but add a few spoonfuls of hummus to the traditional deviled egg yolk filling. The trick to smooth, not gritty, hummus is to remove the skins from the chickpeas before adding them to the food processor.
That’s the secret ingredient that takes your deviled eggs to the next level. And bonus, since chickpeas are a good source of plant-based protein, you’ve just made a healthier potluck treat.
So now, go find the preacher’s wife’s big pan of sinful brownies and my cheesy hash browns.

Sweet wishes,
