Yes! Yes! Caramel Brownies

Every household should have a caramel brownie recipe. I hope this one becomes yours. You don't even need your electric mixer.

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 pan

Ingredients
  

  • 15.25 package chocolate cake mix, 9x13 pan size
  • cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 5 oz evaporated milk, divided into 2 (⅓ cup) portions
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, optional
  • 13 oz individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped , approximately 50 caramels

Instructions
 

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 9x13 pan. (Or, use a 9x9 pan for thicker brownies.)
  • In a large bowl, mix melted butter, cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts.
  • Spread ¾ of this mixture into 13x9 (or 9x9) cake pan. Bake 6 minutes. Take out of the oven.
  • Cover the hot crust with chocolate chips.
  • Melt caramels with ⅓ cup evaporated milk. Stir until creamy.
  • Pour the caramel mixture over the chocolate.
  • Top with the remaining cake batter. Bake the 9x13 pan for 20-25 minutes. (If using 9x9 pan, bake 25-30 minutes.)
  • Cool completely before cutting. Store in airtight container.
